ABOUT THE ARTIST GARNETTE HATHAWAY
Art is self-expression and self-exploration. No matter what medium I work with, I look inward. I do not plan what I will do, but start with a vague idea or image, then follow my impulses throughout the completion of the work. It's like a journey in which the traveler moves quickly at times, then stays longer in a more interesting area, exploring all its nooks and crannies. Once completed, the work speaks to me, telling me what beauty and knowledge it possesses. When my work speaks to another person, it is gratifying, even comforting. At such times, I feel that my road must be similar to, or perhaps even the same as, other peoples. If this is so, then my work is not only self-expression, but an expression of many people. In this way, it becomes a means of communication.
